Scylla by Jean Paul Gaultier

Create a transformative denim collection for a luxury brand using the technology from Cotton Incorporated.

The Inspiration

The Inspiration

The inspiration for this collection came from the book The Odyssey. Which portrays the dangers of life at sea and the creatures that live deep in the ocean.

The next inspiration board we see is focused on the textiles and classic Jean Paul Gaultier motifs that is used throughout his collections. Such as using form-fitting silhouettes that use structured denim pieces to contrast the flowing fabrics. Unraveled denim is a new technique that was used throughout the collection to represent the flowing movement of water.

The last image is how we developed the name for our collection, Scylla. Scylla was a beautiful sea nymph that haunted the narrow straight. She was this very feminine and seductive siren, but learn that there was a darker side to her.

The Textiles

The Textiles

For the textiles, we chose four denim textiles that uses Cotton Incorporated technology. Storm cotton finish to all cotton fabric to help repel water from the fabric and extend the garment’s life. Enzyme washing is used to help soften and lighten denim fabrics using less water.

Purepress technology is used to protect fabrics against abrasion, keep smoothness, and shape, is formaldehyde-free, and is less likely to shrink/pill. TransDry technology helps with moisture management and is used in our garments that are form-fitting.

The video demonstrates the unraveled denim techniques that are applied to some of the denim pieces throughout Scylla.

Tattoo Print

Tattoo Print

Haley, the designer in our group came up with nautical-themed tattoo prints. Taking inspiration from Jean Paul Gauilter’s Spring 1994 collection. These prints can be laser engraved or cool transfer printed onto fabrics.
